The traditions of Romania. A geographical indication or a traditional Romanian?

Romania is known for its heritage, however, for the most part, however, most of the country's citizens

This is due not to the intention of the group to the producers of the only Romanian, but also to the fact that the producers of the Romanian people are not familiar with the means by which they can capitalize on local products, not only in the Usa but also in the european market or to the world.

Producers are people who produce the food, of whose special characteristics are defined by a particular geographical area, have the best interest of the harness through the protected designation of origin or geographical indication, by using the means of protection are available, both at the national and at the european level.

A geographical indication is a direct link with the territory of origin of the product. It helps the manufacturers and the protection of agricultural and food products with identifiable geographical origin and, thus, to increase the added value of the product, and, on the other hand, the consumers, which is guaranteed for the product.

An indication of the geographical grouping:

1. Protected designations of origin (PDO)

The protected designation of origin lay in the value of the result of production, processing and preparation in a geographical area on the basis of the skills of world-renowned local producer, the ingredients they come out of the region in question, the nature of the product and it is also related to the geographical origin of the latter. In addition, these products comply with the specifications, precise, and you can wear the PLUG presence there.

2. The protected geographical indication (PGI) for food and wine

The protected geographical indication identifying a product, whose quality and reputation are tied to a location or an area in which it is carried out either the production or of processing or preparation of the product. The ingredients don't necessarily come from the geographical area indicated. And the products of the IGP follows a precise specification, and it can be easily identified, as the brand name under which they are sold, can be accompanied by a symbol beside.

3. Geographical indications (GIS) in the case of beverages, spirits and wines

Traditional specialities guaranteed

The tradition is to put the value in the system of traditional specialities guaranteed (TSG), which is evidence of the recognition of the method of production or of the composition of the product. Traditional specialities guaranteed, are not tied to a geographical area and you can also wear the symbol of the LEFT join.

Other standards and quality systems

The mention "mountain product" determines an optional quality standard, resulting from the use of raw materials and food for animals of mountain origin. in the case of processed products, the processing stage generally takes place in the mountain area in question.

Voluntary quality certification systems for agricultural products and food were created in order to recognize certain mandatory production standards, environmental protection and animal welfare standards, organoleptic characteristics or the fairness of production.

Quality system and european designations of origin, geographical indications and traditional specialities put in the spotlight for more than 3, 000 products, no matter if it's the wine, cheese, cold cuts, fruit and vegetables, beverages, spirits, etc., Consumers can recognize them very easily because of their symbols. The denominations are protected from counterfeiting, fraud, or imitation.

The protection of the authenticity and recognition for the products of european high quality is ensured by the European Union within its geographically, but also in the whole world. However, as the example of the Feta (φέτα), or Prosecco, they are often used in the third country. Producers are losing money, because of counterfeiting.

Products covered by a geographical indication shall be 15 % of the total agricultural exports of the european Union. For example, an international agreement negotiated by the European Union and Switzerland, and includes, among other things, the protection of the geographical indication in the Genièvre/Jenever/Genever, when the product is sold in Switzerland. In contrast, the name of the world-famous cheese swiss Gruyère, is shielded from the sale of the product in the European Union.

Currently, Romania is present on the list of the Register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications with one (1) single brand, "Magiun de prune Topoloveni" (IGP), since 2011. They are currently being registered in the Register, in different stages, three (3) other local brands: "Novac afumat din Țara Bârsei" (not yet published in the Official Journal), "Salam de Sibiu" and "Telemea de Ibănești", while our neighbors from Hungary already have fourteen (14) brands already registered and those from Bulgaria, which joined in the same year as Romania, have already registered five (5) brands and another two (2) are being registered.

We can't help but notice the way brands are of interest to the local, regional and national levels come together under one umbrella between 1 and 4 brands, each one the size of a medium-sized enterprise. An approach such as this may be harmful in the medium term. The expenses related to the exercise of those exclusive rights on the brand, it can cause severe damage to the work of the producers, and they are much more effective, combination, either at the beginning or during the course of the exploitation of the brand can be protected with the producers and / or processors that are similar.

For the development of products you choose for a geographical indication, or for the product, the traditional Romanian cuisine, the next step is to establish a marketing strategy for both the horizontal and the vertical, for a period of not less than 5 years, the interest in the product, Romanian or a full satisfaction in the relationship with the consumer, Romanian, european and international.
